Victor Moses: From Tragedy to Triumph in English Football

Victor Moses was born on 12 December 1990 in Kaduna, northern Nigeria. In 2002, when he was just 11, religious violence erupted in the city. His parents were killed in the riots. Moses was smuggled out of Nigeria and eventually arrived in England as an asylum seeker. Placed in foster care in South London, Moses found solace in football. He joined Crystal Palace's youth academy, where his raw talent quickly stood out. Despite the immense trauma he had experienced, Moses channelled his energy into the game and became one of the most exciting young players in English football.

Moses made his professional debut for Crystal Palace at 17 before a £2.5 million move to Wigan Athletic in 2010. After several loan spells, Moses was transformed by Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season. Conte converted him from a winger into a right wing-back in his 3-4-3 system, and Moses thrived.
